Save the date! Harold Young’s original jazz workshop returns to Wilkinsburg next week
The Jazz Workshop, Inc. will bring a special Art in the Park performance and jazz workshop to Wilkinsburg on August 14. The event will honor the life and achievements of the late Harold Young, Wilkinsburg resident, jazz musician, and founder of the original Homewood Jazz Workshop and Wilkinsburg’s Jazz in the Park series. Mr. Young’s mission was to “keep jazz alive” by motivating young people and providing quality music education in the Pittsburgh area.

Mr. Young’s successor, Dr. E. Ron Horton, will lead next Thursday’s Jazz in the Park event, which will include a percussion workshop for youth. Dr. Horton will use everyday objects, such as buckets, dried beans and rice, paper towel rolls, and brooms, to teach music education and appreciation to Wilkinsburg’s youth. Jazz in the Park will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Penn Avenue Parklet (743 Penn Ave). All are welcome to attend!
