Reflection from Fr. Taylor: July 30, 2017, 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1 Kings 3:5, 7-12   Romans 8:28-30   Matthew 13:44-52

Wherever your heart is, there will your treasure be.

Most of us would not expect to find treasure in an ordinary field. Jesus describes the kingdom of God as something so extra ordinary, but it is hidden in plain sight. In truth and reality we can find the Kingdom of God anywhere. Each day we have many opportunities to see those who are facing various sad moments in their life. You can see a new person who just needs a friend or someone to talk to.

As we go about our day to day responsibilities there are so many opportunities to help and serve. Every time you refuse to be critical, but yet encourage and offer a positive word, you are both discovering and bringing forth God’s Kingdom, His presence among ordinary people in ordinary places.

The Kingdom of God is nothing we have to go on a major search for. It really has to do with our own attitudes and our response to God’s offer of discipleship. God’s love is always so freely given to each of us. It is that same gift that we can give so freely to others.

The world today needs so much generosity rather than selfishness, love instead of hate, compassion instead of criticism. The opportunities are always there. All we have to do is look and we will find them.
